“Gemological Characterization for an Ethical and Transparent Market”

On Monday, June 16, and Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the “Diamond and Colored Stones: National Conference of Gemmology - Seventh Edition: Gemological Characterization for an Ethical and Transparent Market” will take place in Naples at the Royal Mineralogical Museum of the University of Naples Federico II.

Organized by the Department of Earth Sciences for Environment and Resources at the University of Naples Federico II, with the support of Rivista Italiana di Gemmologia – Italian Gemological Review (IGR), this year's conference will feature expert speakers from both academia and industry. The focus will be on how scientific advancements contribute to fostering a more ethical and transparent gem market.

Key discussions will include:

  • Social responsibility in the gemstone trade
  • Environmental and economic sustainability across the supply chain
  • Geographic origin determination to prevent conflict-related and illegal sourcing
  • Market transparency and proper disclosure of gemological characteristics

With growing consumer awareness, clear and honest information about gemstones has become crucial. The conference will emphasize the importance of accurate gem identification, ethical sourcing, and fair communication in the jewelry industry.

  • 25-minute Special Talks – In-depth discussions by invited experts

The conference will host leading figures in mineralogy and gemology research, internationally recognized gemological professionals, and experienced industry practitioners, sharing their insights and expertise.
