Asteria (Corundum)

Asteria (Corundum): an optical effect occurring and detectable as a star-shaped luminosity (with four, six or more rays), due to the reflection of light on inclusions or discontinuities contained in a crystal, oriented according to its symmetry; the effect becomes clearly visible when the crystal is cut with a curved surface, according to an appropriate orientation.
