Carbon

Carbon: chemical element with the symbol C, atomic number 6, atomic weight 12.01. It is a non-metallic, tetravalent element, insoluble in solvents, odorless, and tasteless. Its different forms include one of the softest known materials (Graphite) and one of the hardest (Diamond). When combined with Hydrogen, it forms various compounds called “hydrocarbons,” which are essential to industry as fossil fuels.
