Chlorite: a term referring to an entire series of generally monoclinic minerals with a layered T-O-T structure (tetrahedral-octahedral-tetrahedral layers), whose end-members include Clinochlore, Chamosite, Nimite, and Pennantite. Its formula is (Fe,Mg,Al)₆[(OH)₂(Si,Al)₄O₁₀]. It ranges from transparent to opaque, with a luster varying from vitreous to pearly to dull. The color ranges from dark green to brown, rarely red, yellow, or white. Chlorite typically occurs as foliated masses or scaly aggregates. It is found in veins and fractures within metamorphic rocks, especially in Chloritic Schists.
