Dunites

Dunites: ultrabasic intrusive rocks with a chemical composition similar to Peridotites, featuring an autothomorphic holocrystalline texture. They are composed predominantly of Olivine (>90%) and subordinately of Pyroxenes. When containing Biotite or Amphiboles, they are described with the corresponding mineral adjective. Most exposed Dunites are altered into Serpentinites, which have a compact appearance and a dark green to black mottled color.
