Epidote: a mineral with the chemical formula Ca₂(Fe,Al)Al₂[O,OH,SiO₄,Si₂O₇]. It ranges from transparent to opaque, with a vitreous luster and colors from green to black, yellow, or gray. Epidote crystallizes in the Monoclinic System and occurs in prismatic, short crystals, rarely tabular or pseudo-octahedral. It is found in metamorphic rocks and as an accessory mineral in igneous rocks.
