Exsolution Process

Exsolution Process: this represents a specific type of epigenetic inclusion. Exsolution can occur when a substance’s components dissolve within the host crystal at a certain temperature and pressure. When these conditions change, the dissolved chemical elements may be forced to crystallize inside an already formed stone. For example, think of sugar crystallizing in cooling coffee. Rutile needles found in Rubies and Sapphires, among other stones, are a good example of this exsolution process.
