Faceting: in gem cutting—aimed at transforming the rough stone into a well-defined geometric shape to highlight the stone’s optical potential using the principles of optics—this is the stage of the process that involves cutting and polishing the facets (flat surfaces with shape, size, position, and angle determined according to the optical characteristics of the various materials).
