‘Flash Effect’: a colored flashing occurring in materials that have undergone a Filling Treatment (e.g., Yehuda Method for Diamonds, Lead Filling for Rubies, Opticon Treatment for Emeralds). The test is to be considered diagnostic of the Treatment, for all purposes. Using fiber optic illumination with direction of observation nearly parallel to the plane in which the filled fracture (cavity) develops, facilitates the visibility of the Flash Effect.
