Magma chamber

Magma chamber: a reservoir of magma located a few kilometers below the Earth’s surface, where the magma remains partially molten. The main causes for magma stagnation are:

a) heat loss, which intensifies as the melt rises due to the increasing thermal gradient between the magma and the surrounding rocks;

b) decrease in the density contrast between the melt and the surrounding rocks, resulting in the depletion of the driving forces that trigger magma ascent.
