Muscovite: a mineral belonging to the Mica Group (which also includes Biotite, Phlogopite, Zinnwaldite, and Lepidolite), with the chemical formula KAl₂(AlSi₃O₁₀)(OH)₂. Ranging from translucent to transparent, it exhibits a vitreous to pearly luster and a color from colorless to white with silvery hues. It crystallizes in the Monoclinic System and appears as flat, tabular crystals—often with a well-defined hexagonal outline—or as densely packed foliated aggregates. Muscovite is found in metamorphic rocks, pegmatites, and plutonic rocks. It is used as an electrical and thermal insulator.
