Tectonic phenomena: refer to the displacements (movements) and deformations (changes in shape and size) experienced by the solid Earth’s crust (lithosphere) due to tectonic forces. These processes cause the mechanical stacking of rock masses (tectonic units), detached from their substrate, onto adjacent terrains. Tectonics is the process that governs and affects the structure and properties of the Earth’s crust, as well as its evolution over time. Specifically, it describes phenomena such as orogeny, and the growth and strengthening of rock bodies.
