Fabulite: an artificial material produced by the “Flame Fusion Method,” chemically a strontium titanate with the formula SrTiO₃. Transparent and colorless, since 1955 it has been used in jewelry as a Diamond simulant but has gradually been replaced by other simulants considered to have a better appearance, such as YAG, GGG, Cubic Zirconia, and synthetic Moissanite. It crystallizes in the Cubic System and is therefore singly refractive. It differs from Diamond due to its lower hardness (5.5 on the Mohs scale)—showing scratches, abrasions, and chips under a microscope—and its pronounced dispersion (0.190, which is 4.3 times that of Diamond).
