Mantle

Mantle: Earth’s intermediate layer, composed of ultrabasic silicates stable under high pressure and rich in Iron and Magnesium. It lies between the Mohorovičić discontinuity, which separates it from the lithosphere, and the Gutenberg-Wiechert discontinuity, located at about 2,900 km depth, which separates it from the core. The mantle accounts for 84% of the planet’s total volume.
