Federico Pezzotta was in the period 1998-2023, the mineralogy curator of the Natural History Museum of Milan, Italy, where on March 2021 he inaugurated the new permanent exhibit of the Mineral Gallery. At present, he is the Director of the Mineralogical and Gemological Museum entitled to “Luigi Celleri” in Elba Island, Tuscany, Italy. In the period 2013-2018, he was the Chairman of the IMA-Museum Commission, and since March 2019 he is the President of the GML-AIM (Lombardy Mineral Club – Italian Association of Mineralogy). Since 2004 he is part of the IMA-Sub-Commission on the Nomenclature of the Tourmaline Supergroup.

He was honored in 2003 with the name of the new mineral and new gemstone pezzottaite, from Madagascar.

As a mineralogist and a petrologist, mostly interested in gem-bearing pegmatites, and as an expert in prospecting, mining, and extracting mineral specimens and gemstones, Federico visited, studied, and performed field and consultant work in pegmatite fields in Brazil, Italy, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, Ukraine, and various localities in USA. At present, he is also partner of mining ventures in Madagascar and Mozambique, and he is owning the M.C.P. company, based in Milan, Italy, dedicated to mineral specimen preparation for Museums and collectors (www.mcp-italy.com).

As a result of such experience, he produced about 300 publications in international, scientific and popular, magazines.
