Recently the De Beers Institute of Diamonds examined a very special gemstone. The video released by the company shows a diamond inside a cavity made of diamond itself!

According to the research team that was lucky enough to study the gem, the original “core” consists of a good quality diamond. The subsequent fibrous and probably poor layer, however, had an additional “outer coating” of growing gem-quality crystal. At some point in its journey to the earth’s surface, the poor-quality layer was eroded away, leaving only the better-quality material undamaged.
