Dolomite: a mineral also known as “bitter spar.” Chemically, it is a calcium-magnesium carbonate with the formula CaMg(CO₃)₂. It ranges from translucent to transparent, with a luster from vitreous to waxy, and colors from white-gray to colorless, green, light brown, and pink (due to the presence of Manganese or Cobalt). Dolomite crystallizes in the Trigonal System and typically occurs in rhombohedral forms, but also as granular aggregates, columnar, sparry, twinned, or massive forms. It is the main mineral component of Dolomites and Dolomitic Marble. It is found associated with Calcite in Carbonate rocks.
