A member of the AGA (Accredited Gemologists Association) in Italy was contacted by an Ebay buyer, who requested information regarding a ruby purchased on that platform. The stone was accompanied by a gemological report bearing the AGA mark (see photo). This document proved to be deceptive and fraudulent, as reported by AGA.
The AGA is an international association that brings together gemologists of recognized competence and consolidated ethical behavior. It does not have its own laboratory, does not produce any certificates, nor does it provide verification services of any kind. The online sales in question were mainly identified in Italy. Please report these cases, clearly fraudulent to the competent authorities or to the members of the association in Italy: Alberto Scarani (alberto@gemmoraman.com) and Francesco Sequino (f.sequino@igi-italy.it). They will put in action all the appropriate steps for the AGA to proceed with due legal action, in the relevant countries and locations.
