The international congress ECROFI (European Current Research on Fluid and Melt Inclusions) returned to Italy after twenty years, taking place in Turin from June 27 to July 4, 2025. The event was organized by the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Turin, in collaboration with the National Research Council (Turin Unit), the Department of Environmental and Earth Sciences of the University of Milano-Bicocca, and the Department of Earth and Marine Sciences of the University of Palermo. The initiative was held under the patronage of the City of Turin, the Piedmont Region, the Italian Society of Mineralogy and Petrology, the Geological Society of Italy, and the Sesia Val Grande Geopark, with the Italian Gemological Review (IGR) among its sponsors.

The core theme of the congress was the study of fluid and melt inclusions in minerals and rocks, across all Earth environments — from the surface down to the mantle depths, and extending to ore deposits. Although European in name, the congress brought together nearly eighty researchers from around the world, representing diverse fields within mineralogy, petrography, geology, and ore deposit studies (including experimental, thermodynamic, petroleum-related, sedimentary, magmatic, and metamorphic research). This edition was dedicated to Professor Jacques Touret, one of the founding figures in the study of fluid inclusions, who passed away recently.
The program featured single-track oral presentations and poster sessions (June 30 – July 2), preceded by a pre-congress workshop “Fluid Inclusion Study: Principles and Application – The Jacques Touret Legacy” (June 27–29), focusing on the fundamentals and applications of fluid and melt inclusion research. The event concluded with a post-congress field trip in the Sesia Valley “The Continental Lithosphere in Val Sesia: A Journey From the Mantle to the Surface” (July 3–4).
The organizing committee of the event expressed its gratitude to all those who contributed to its success, emphasizing the hope that ECROFI will continue to serve as a reference point for the scientific and professional community, fostering exchange of ideas, international collaboration, and the advancement of knowledge in the study of fluid and melt inclusions.
