For the first time ever, the highly specialized “Spectroscopy in Gemology” intensive course is crossing the Atlantic to hold its inaugural European session. Previously available exclusively in the United States, this unique educational event will take place from October 19th to 23rd, 2026, in Marcianise, situated near Naples, Italy. Operating under the motto “Where Gemologists Meet Spectroscopy,” these dates mark the only European session available for professionals looking to elevate their analytical capabilities.
This landmark five-day program is spearheaded by MAGILABS, in collaborative co-organization with Materia Lab, Gem-Tech Gemological Institute, IGR – Rivista Italiana di Gemmologia (Italian Gemological Review), and the Oromare Goldsmith Center, which will host the attendees at its facility.

Modern spectroscopy has undeniably become the new standard in gemological laboratories worldwide, shaping how gemological issues are addressed in the new millennium. Despite its critical impact, it remains largely absent from the most renowned traditional gemology courses. This advanced training program aims to bridge that gap, designed specifically for gemologists, researchers, and professionals eager to master cutting-edge analytical methods.
Through a meticulously balanced mix of theoretical lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions, participants will work directly with more than a hundred carefully selected gemstones, each chosen for its teaching value. Attendees will gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art instruments, exploring a comprehensive suite of technologies ranging from UV-Vis, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy to photoluminescence, fluorescence, and XRF. Furthermore, the curriculum offers advanced theoretical insights into highly sensitive techniques like LIBS and LA-ICP-MS. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to acquire, interpret, and evaluate spectral data with professional accuracy for gemstone identification, treatment detection, and origin determination.
To ensure a personalized and high-level educational environment, the course is strictly tailored for a small, advanced group of attendees. While no prior background in spectroscopy is required, a robust foundational knowledge of gemology is mandatory, and the MAGILABS team will carefully review each candidate’s competencies prior to admission.
