An innovative service representing an actual diamond fingerprint identifiable at any time, to some extent even after recutting to possibly hide its original size and shape, has been developed by GGTL, the highly reputed laboratories formed by the merging of Gemlab, founded by Thomas Hainschwang and Gemtechlab, founded by Franck Notari.
This new report has been named Cullinan after Mark Cullinan, current owner of the historical mines and partner of the project. It is conceived for high-quality white and colored diamonds. It contains, in addition to clarity, color and cut grading, a wider quantity of informations and spectral data such as general type, nitrogen/hydrogen/boron content (if determinable), IR spectrum, photo, LW and SW UV fluorescence, photo of characteristic DFI fluorescence or cathodoluminescence of stone and girdle inscription. The method applied by GGTL Laboratories takes advantage of most of those spectroscopic evidences originally set up for synthetic diamonds identification to produce now a map of defects of the stone, properties that cannot be modified without treatment.
According to GGTL the 4Cs characteristics, under customer request, may not be reported to avoid the risk of contradicting the grades of the existing documents produced by other labs. According to developers the Cullinan Report, laminated and furnished with a range of security features that make it virtually impossible to successfully forge, can be of great support to recognize diamonds in case of theft or insurance fraud.
