The Gübelin Gemological Laboratory has introduced an innovative service, the Gem Passport, which is dedicated to unmounted small-size gemstones (up to 3 carat size), ruby, blue sapphires and emeralds. This document represents a new approach and is designed to process not only high-value gems, but also those of moderate value.

This new report, priced at CHF 200 (approximately €185), is introduced to make the services of the prestigious institute accessible to a wider range of clients. It leverages Gemtelligence™, the deep-learning software developed by the laboratory for the interpretation of gem analytical data. The report features the main identifying characteristics (species and varieties) and a concise presentation of the presence/absence of treatments. However, it does not specifically discuss the exact degree of treatments, such as cavity filling of emeralds, surface or deep diffusion with beryl of sapphires, or glass-lead stabilization of corundums.
It should be noted that, although the information provided is of a general nature, the Gem Passport offers indications of geographic provenance, which represents the real added value of modern gemology and of Gübelin in particular.
Gem Passports are available from the laboratory’s offices in Hong Kong, Lucerne, and New York. It is worth noting that this service does not include signatures or the Gübelin Seal.
