IGR cover

Issue no. 40, 2018 of InColor, the magazine published by ICA, International Colored Gemstone Association, provides an extremely rich update on emeralds.

Firstly it contains the highlights of the World Emerald Symposium held in Bogotá, a meeting that can be considered a milestone for emerald lovers and specialists. It is quite hard to list those who contributed to the publication.

The reader will find the elite of the international gemological research. It will be difficult to read all of them again in a single publication. Among the many contributors, Michelou, Schmetzer, Pardieu, Nyfeler, Cartier, Saleem Ali, Ringsrud provided articles in the issue or offered presentations at the symposium. An exhaustive picture comes out, showing the geology of the deposits worldwide and focusing in 50 pages on Colombian, Zambian, Brazilian, Canadian, Pakistani, Afghani, Chinese, from Urals and Madagascar.

The outlook is not limited to mineralogical features but also includes the emerging aspects of responsible sourcing. It was just in Bogotá’s symposium that these theme came to light in a definitive way through the presentation of brand new procedures such as Gübelin Gem Lab‘s Paternity Test and the Colombian proposal of the AO, the appellation of origin that might work as a quality mark for the renowned green gemstone of the country.

In-depth studies on jewelry classics with emeralds, fillers, grading standards applied in China, the most important emerging market for emeralds, are also available. The issue is accessible free of charge, only in English, at www.gemstone.org/incolor/40
