IGR cover

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has launched a pilot program for a Jewelry Report service as other gemological institutes have done in the past. The report offers a detailed analysis of the jewelry presented, then a complete verification of metals and gemstones, including purity, color and carat weight of diamonds. If diamonds have already been certified by the institute, the existing data will be carried over into the new report, thus ensuring continuity and consistency in the information provided. Additional services are also available for a fee, such as a 360-degree video of the jewel.

Currently, according to an article published in National Jeweler, certificates are only available for jewelry that mounts diamonds. This means that customers who wish to have jewelry with other gemstones, such as rubies, emeralds or sapphires, appraised will have to wait until the service is extended to these colored gems as well.
