Istituto Gemmologico Italiano Celebrates Its Fiftieth Anniversary with Scientists, Students, and Industry Experts in Milan

Istituto Gemmologico Italiano (IGI) celebrates its 50th anniversary. On October 15, 2023, the institute, located in Milan, marked its fiftieth year of operation with an event at Villa Necchi-Campiglio, which covered the history of the training center and analytical laboratory.

The day featured the presence of experts in the field of gemmology, such as Fabrizio Nestola, Director of the Department of Geosciences and Professor of Mineralogy at the University of Padua, specializing in the research of “superdeep” diamonds; Guy Lalous, President of the Federation of European Education in Gemmology (FEEG); Rui Galopim de Carvalho, consultant for gemmological education and Vice President of the Coral Commission of CIBJO; and Andrea Zullino, consultant for advanced analysis at IGI. The latter provided an updated overview of the state of the art in gemmology.

The topics of growth and the future took center stage in a roundtable discussion moderated by Laura Inghirami. Participants included Alessia Crivelli, General Manager of Crivelli and National Vice President of Fedeorafi with responsibility on Education; Simone Rizzetto, President of the Mani Intelligenti Foundation and CEO of the Damiani Laboratory; and Loredana Sangiovanni.

Furthermore, the ceremony included the awarding of IGI gemmology diplomas to the institute’s students. The ceremony was presided over by Raffaele Maino, President of IGI, along with Gaetano Cavalieri, President of CIBJO, Guy Lalous, and the teaching staff.
