As of October 1st, 2025, Ilaria Adamo is the new Director of the Istituto Gemmologico Italiano (IGI), succeeding Loredana Prosperi, who has stepped down after thirty years of service within the Institute.
Adamo holds a PhD in Earth Sciences (Mineralogy) from the University of Milan and has over ten years of academic research experience, with numerous publications in scientific journals. A certified IGI Gemmologist and European Gemmologist (E.G.), she has long been active in education and training, with a particular focus on coloured gemstones. Within the Institute, she is regarded as a key technical reference.
Loredana Prosperi, who joined IGI in 1995, has made significant contributions to the development of the laboratory. A graduate in Geological Sciences, she has been involved in various gemmological committees and has authored a number of publications in the field. She will continue to represent the Institute in the role of “Ambassador of the Istituto Gemmologico Italiano”.
